With the help of the Export Development & Technology Exchange Corridor of the Iranian Vice Presidency of Science and Technology, at least 20 companies participating in the Iran-Made Exhibition of Equipment and Materials have managed to export their medical and laboratory equipment products.<br />

“As the Vice Presidency’s Export branch, we provide knowledge-based and technology-based companies with the services to increase their exports,” said Masoud Hafezi, an International Business Development official at the Vice Presidency.<br />

“At least 20 companies in the field of laboratory equipment and materials have managed to export their products to different countries in the past two years with the assistance of the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology. China, South Korea, Ecuador, Malaysia, Cuba and European countries were among the export destinations that Iranian-based products were sent to,” added Hafezi.<br />

Referring to various services offered, he said, “To help knowledge-based companies to export their products, showrooms are set up for export purposes so that visitors can get acquainted with the quality of Iranian goods.”<br />
<br />
Business meetings with foreign clients is another service that these companies enjoy with the assistance of the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology and the agencies affiliated with it.<br />
<br />
Technological companies interested in receiving services from the Vice Presidency are first evaluated to measure their export performance, he noted.</div>

The fourth version of Surena, Iranian humanoid robot, was unveiled during a ceremony on Saturday, IRIB news agency reported.<br />

The ceremony was held in the faculty of engineering of the University of Tehran, with vice president for scientific and technological affairs, Sorena Sattari, in attendance. The robot has taken four years to be developed. It stands 170 cm tall, weighs 70 kg, and is able to walk at the speed of 0.7 km/hr.<br />
<br />
It can move around the sides, backward and on rough surfaces while remaining upright on uneven ground and is able to lift objects, recognize faces, shake hands, and also kick a soccer ball.<br />

Surena also has the ability to detect 100 voice commands in addition to listening, speaking and converting text into speech; visual ability and the ability to recognize 100 different objects are other features of this robot.<br />
<br />
The Iranian humanoid has been making steady progress in the past ten years. The first version of the robot was unveiled in 2008. It had only 8 degrees of freedom (DOF). Surena 2 was unveiled in 2010 and had 22 DOF and could walk at a pace of 0.03 meters per second. The third generation of the robot had 31 DOF and a walking speed nearly 10 times as fast, at 0.2 m/s.<br />
<br />
The third version of Surena has been made with a fund of 20 billion rials (about $470,000 at the official rate of 42,000 rials) through four-year efforts of a team of 70 experts.<br />
<br />
Surena was a Parthian spahbed ("general" or "commander") during the 1st century BC. He was the leader of the House of Suren and was best known for defeating the Romans in the Battle of Carrhae.</div>

The European aircraft manufacturer Airbus completed a deal on Thursday to sell 100 jetliners to Iran, a move described by both sides as a major step toward revitalizing Iran’s aged commercial fleet after years of sanctions and economic isolation.<br />
<br />
The sale came a few weeks after the Boeing Company, Airbus’s American rival, signed its own deal to sell 80 aircraft to Iran, one of the most prominent commercial transactions between the United States and Iran in decades.<br />
<br />
Both sales were possible because of provisions in the nuclear agreement between Iran and six world powers that took effect nearly a year ago, which lifted many sanctions on Iran in exchange for its verifiable pledges of peaceful nuclear work.<br />
<br />
Despite sharp criticism of the nuclear agreement by President-elect Donald J. Trump and the Republican-led Congress, and the possibility that they could subvert it, both aviation companies moved forward with their deals, which were in the works for months.<br />
<br />
Their combined value could be more than $26 billion, and they could help employ many thousands of workers in the United States and Europe. Many Airbus components are made in the United States and are subject to American export controls.<br />
<br />
Airbus said it expected to start deliveries in early 2017. Boeing has said it expects to start deliveries in 2018.<br />
<br />
“We hope this success signals to the world that the commercial goals of Iran and its counterparts are better achieved with international cooperation and collaboration,” Fabrice Brégier, Airbus’s president and chief executive, said in an announcement.<br />
<br />
Farhad Parvaresh, chairman and chief executive of Iran Air, the national airline taking delivery of the planes, called the deal “the next decisive phase” in the renewal of the airline’s commercial fleet.<br />

Iranian engineers have domestically carried out a major standard oil and natural gas excavation technique which was formerly employed only by Western countries.<br />

Director of the National Iranian Drilling Company Heidar Bahmani announced on Thursday that oil well perforations via percussion drilling were successfully conducted at an oil well near Iran's western city of Dehloran.<br />

The cited method has been exclusively practiced by North America and certain European countries up until now, IRIB quoted the official as saying.<br />
<br />
The method applies focused pressure through special 'perforator guns' to penetrate layers of the ground in order to dig both modern 'deflected' and older horizontal wells.<br />
<br />
Through this method, the heavy cost of oil well casing will be reduced and the excavation sites' safety will improve.<br />
<br />
The casing of oil wells is a supplementary procedure in drilling operations which helps boost the well's half-life.</div>

MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica (Reuters) - Leaders from developing countries moved to an exclusive Jamaican country club Thursday to put the finishing touches on proposals to ease the world's financial crisis.<br />
<br />
The one-day retreat, modeled on the closed-door leaders' meetings held at some other international events, will give heads of delegations to the Group of 15 summit the chance to talk without ministers or aides present.<br />
<br />
Officials said they would debate a few proposed changes to a draft communique, including a suggestion from Malaysia's outspoken leader, Mahathir Mohamad, to ``emphasize the need for both the developed and the developing world to have a voice in the process of reforming the international financial system.''<br />
<br />
Officials said the document also will include proposals to reform the International Monetary Fund, which many delegates have criticized for proposing inappropriate recipes to the troubled economies of Asia and Latin America.<br />

``We want to look at the multilateral institutions,'' Nigerian Planning Minister Rasheed Gbadamosi told Reuters. ''Maybe there are not enough resources available to the IMF.''<br />

The G15 countries include both open economies such as Mexico and Argentina and those which, like Malaysia, are seeking to control capital flows.<br />

Mahathir said Wednesday that the unbridled movement of money across borders had impoverished Asia's once-proud tiger economies and put their very independence at risk.<br />

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman says an upcoming meeting of the Group of 15 (G15) will present a good opportunity for cooperation to member states.<br />

Ramin Mehmanparast said the 14th Summit of the G15 will be held in Tehran on May 17.<br />
<br />
"The summit, which will bring together representatives from important countries, will provide a great capacity for expansion of economic [ties] and political cooperation (among member states,)", the Fars news agency quoted Mehmanparast as saying on Monday.<br />
<br />
He noted that Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa are among the senior guests attending the summit.<br />
<br />
The Group of 15 was established at the 9th Non-Aligned Movement Summit Meeting in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, in September 1989, with a common goal of enhanced growth and prosperity in its member states.<br />
<br />
The number of the G15 members has expanded to 18 countries from North America, South America, Asia and Africa, but the name has remained unchanged.</div>
